I am confused really. I mean isn’t the Pope supposed to deal with religion and not politics? Funny but it seems that the last couple of Popes have spent more time dealing with politics than with religion though in all fairness I suppose one could argue that in the issue of Same Sex Marraige and Condoms it is semi religious.
However, it galls me to think that the Pope would insist that marraige is between a man and a woman and is the natural order of things. In a back handed way he is saying being Gay is unnatural or something. Least that is how it comes across, whether intentional or incidental.
He addressed gay marriage before even getting off the plane from Rome. Asked about the role of gay marriage in society, the pope told reporters: “According to human nature, it is man and woman who are made for each other and to give humanity a future.” ( see story for details )
All of the leading Head Doctors would disagree. In fact they would argue that a person’s DNA makeup can effect a person’s sexuality or sexual preferences. Now that would seem to me to contradict the Pontiff by saying that being gay is natural as much as being hetrosexual.
I think thought that the real issue is simply money. The Pope and his Church are losing out big time these days, what with all the cash settlements for abuse and such plus people are looking for other alternatives as the Church simply isn’t in tune with todays world and it’s problems.
Life moves on, too bad the Church isn’t.
Simple fact is that being gay isn’t a choice. It is who we are and the Pope knows this, or should. Yet in all honesty he seems wedded to the notion that we choose to be ostracized, ridiculed, and hated as well as being second class citizens. Now maybe some enjoy S&M and that kind of shit, but come on, does he really think we ALL enjoy it?
I sure as fuck don’t.
Does he honestly believe that we enjoy leading secret lives? Right now I have a bit more peace of mind knowing that Dave is gonna be okay if anything happens to me. I know he and Mom will both be legally able to make decisions for me if I can’t, and that is all because Jean Chretien and Paul Martin (both Roman Catholics) put aside their own religious views and did what was right. They accepted civil same sex marraige and now Dave & I are legally married.
Does being gay mean I am doomed to Hell?
I can’t buy that. And perhaps that is one reason why Spain for example is moving away from the Catholic Church.
Spain has passed from being a bastion of Roman Catholicism to a predominantly lay society in less than a generation. Statistics show that while 80 percent of Spaniards still call themselves Catholics only 42 percent believe in God and 20 percent go to Mass. ( see CBS Story )
People simply can’t accept a Vengeful God anymore than I can. If we are all his children, and if HE is the Father of All Fathers, then how can he deny any of us his love? It simply is illogical and irrational to believe that HE could deny loving those HE created.
Isn’t it written somewhere in the Bible that Jesus told his followers to seek out those who were shunned as they were GOD‘s children too and equally deserving of HIS love?
I know in the Jewish belief that when Moses led the people out of Egypt and they crossed the Red Sea and all the pursuing Troops died, God was unhappy and called them his children too. And so we remember on passover that many died before getting freedom, including the dead Egyptians.
Isn’t that what LOVE is all about?
