Ever wonder why the world seems to have simply gone start raving mad?
Right now people are lining up at Airports because some crazy thinks it okay to commit mass murder in the name of their God, and elsewhere people are blowing up others because they simply want to have their own country free of perceived invaders.
Back in history we had the Crusades because of the desire to make all God Fearing, though why do we feel the need to fear GOD? After all isn’t he the creator of all live? Why should we tremble at his presence or be afraid?
Then there is the Nazi horror that seems unwilling to die even 60 odd years after the war. We have entire nations dedicating themselves to implementing Hitler’s Final Solution and we shake our heads in disbelief, all the time standing in line holding plastic bags with our wallets and documents so we can board a plane to go across the ocean or across the boundary. In some places there are troops walking around with sub machine guns at the ready, some holding snarling Shepards as they patrol the waiting area and yet we do nothing about it, we foster it with outrageous news casts or we ignore that we have made it open season on those of a difference.
We are so determined to show the differences, to make mockery of them that we encourage radical behaviour to try and stop it. Yet in all honesty, there are easier ways to end the Open Season on racism and hatred.
Nearly one-in-five students reported they had been physically assaulted because of their sexual orientation and over a tenth because of their gender expression. ( see Article )
If 20% of kids are being abused for being different, for being what God made them, how can we expect to fight the evil from outside when within we condemn and show intolerance at our own who are different?
When governments show clearly that being different is wrong, that being who you are somehow makes you less of a citizen, how else will you react but with violence? If you have nothing to draw on, to support your humanity, how quickly will you resort to measures we all think are horrible? Would you stand and take the mental and physical abuse?
In a study released in April to coincided with the National Day of Silence it was found that three-quarters of students surveyed across America said that over the past year they heard derogatory remarks such as “faggot” or “dyke” frequently or often at school, and nearly nine out of ten reported hearing “that’s so gay” or “you’re so gay” – meaning stupid or worthless – frequently or often ( original story) (as quoted in 365Gay)
I know that the previous Federal Government up here recognized that bullying was a danger. For them it was a precuser to more dangerous actions or reactions so they intensified their efforts to show how bullying was wrong. Seems to me that it was an effort others should follow, along with ending this absurdity that being Gay is somehow evil.
I know that it isn’t just about making a tax claim or getting the reduced monthly health care rates but that it is something more. That piece of paper says to me that I am not evil, that I am not a pariah and that my country accepts that. Not that it understands how I feel about Dave but that it accepts that I can feel for Dave what Mr Average feels for Mrs Average. ( see First Year Legal )
Strange how a simple piece of paper can really make a difference. Sure it has economic benefits but as shown above, it is much more than that. it is about perception and you know, when people are calling you names, deriding you for being you, it is a comfort to at least know that your own Government isn’t agreeing with those vicious hurtful comments.
Unfortunately in the United States that isn’t the case. Instead they wait for the explosions to come, the shootings as immature and confused young people resort to solutions most of us wouldn’t even consider. But then too, when pushed to the wall, what else is left?
Teen age suicide among gay teenagers is on the rise, and we wonder why. Some will claim it is because we are guilty for being Gay, but the truth is that many simply are tired of being abused by the so called Normal People. When you make who a person is what determines their status in a society, are you really any better than say those nations who stone people for perceived religious violations?
What is perhaps scary is that by ignoring this issue, we are fostering an entire generation of intolerance and one has to wonder, when will the hate stop? If we do nothing, as we have over the decades, is it any wonder that the world is tearing itself apart in hatred and murder and increased murderous acts like attempting to blow up multiple airlines over an ocean?
Is this really what America wishes to be its contribution to the history of mankind?
