“The APA’s concern about the positions espoused by NARTH and so-called conversion therapy is that they are not supported by the science. There is simply no sufficiently scientifically sound evidence that sexual orientation can be changed. Our further concern is that the positions espoused by NARTH and Focus on the Family create an environment in which prejudice and discrimination can flourish.” ( see article )
HOORAY FOR THE SHRINKS! It has taken a long time to reach this stage and yet despite all this science, or lack thereof, there are still many who think we Choose To Be Gay. It is unreal but then some people like to live in their own little world, not the real one you and I live in.
Problem with all this comes down to that decades ago, three roughly, this same group of Doctors bought into the theory that being gay was an illness. I suppose in some ways its no different than when many educated men believed Negroes were sub human, and that only changed about 5 decades ago when civil rights were granted to people of color.
Hell it wasn’t all that long ago that the United States apologized for not banning lynching in the Union. Maybe there is hope that one day they will apologize to Gays for attempting to deny them equal rights and equal protection under the law? Hey, a guy can hope can’t he?
Still it seems in this world that violence and hatred is the norm, rather than on the wane it is on the increase. Sad state of affairs given how much information is now available to people than there was say 30 years ago.
I wonder, if that there is maybe too much information floating around or that we have somehow become less open to differing opinions?
Perhaps all that inbreeding is finally coming home to roost. Our education system is failing the students and us. There are only 9 schools in the USA ( see study ) that offer a diverse anti bullying campaign within the school. ( see Its Open Season Now ) Yet I wonder, how many offer a no drug or no gun tolerance policy while ignoring that kids who are abused, verbally and physically. Don’t they see that these ignored kids will seek alternative sources to escape today’s world, such as drugs and resort to violence even?
Seems that if we want less violence in schools, less drug use, we should attack the core problem instead of putting a band aid on the symptoms. Just a thought mind you, one that one day might come to be. Hope its in my lifetime, the abuse sometimes is just too overwhelming to witness.
