If you think that having Religious Scruples will prevent you from representing your country, then why seek political Office in the first place?
Harper’s office hasn’t really made clear why he won’t follow in the footsteps of other world leaders – including former Conservative prime minister Brian Mulroney – and attend the opening. The explanation given is that the prime minister can’t accept every invitation he’s proffered. ( see 365Gay article )
With over 20,000 attending from around the world, and AIDS being classed an Epidemic that KILLS, you would think the Prime Minister would come up with a better reason, though one has to keep in mind, it is Stephen Harper. I suppose his master George Bush didn’t provide him with an answer, yet.
We all have our personal ethics, and views. Many of us even have our own Religious Views and Principles that we try to follow in our daily lives, however when you are the Head of State you have an obligation to the Nation as well.
Jean Chretien was threatened with Ex Comminication from the Roman Catholic Church and yet he brought in the Same Sex Marraige Act that gave David and Myself the rights all of our Hetrosexual citizens had.
Is it religious principles that make Mr Harper uncomfortable with what the Church labels a Gay Disease or is it that he isn’t properly potty trained yet?
When did GOD come down from Heaven and tell the world that Charity and Compassion was Exclusive Only to those who Believed in HIM according to the Pope? or some other ordained Church Leader?
I suppose I might have been off ruining some poor straight guy’s marraige when that happened, cause I sure as hell don’t recall seeing it on the news or anywhere. Mind you I did hear that George Bush talked with GOD, so maybe he passed the message on to Stephen Harper?
Sitting here, I wonder what is it about our marraige that has hurt any other marraige out there? I mean the fact that now Dave and I are legal, are accepted by OUR government, how has that weakened the marraiges of those who are straight or opposed to our marraige rights? ( see More Than A PieceĀ of Paper )
I was not impressed by the sponsorship scandal or even how Paul Martin fought the last election. However I do admire both Paul Martin and Jean Chretien for taking an unpopular stand to insure that ALL Canadians are treated equally under the law.
Something Stephen Harper has yet to show anyone.
Frankly I can’t wait for the next Federal Election and I pray that my fellow Canadians will see the real light, and turf this sanctimonious hypocrite and his party of Northern Copycat Klan out of Office.
