With all the news crap about the capture of that Warren Jeffs and his life as the leader of some sect that practises Polygamy, it started me thinking. I mean seriously there are some interesting questions about that whole life style that are worth looking at.
To begin with, is man supposed to be with only one other? Look at the old testament and didn’t they all have multiple partners back then? I mean you would think the religious right would be thundering their support for all Polygamists, as its scripture, yet they abhor it, which begs the question, why?
While it doesn’t make sense to me, it is interesting. I mean I have enough troubles keeping up with Dave let alone with 20 or 30 more like him. Then too their is the whole child issue. I mean listening to this Jeff’s sister, she is the oldest sibling of about 65! SIXTY FIVE? Geez, can you imagine the birthday gift list? That is like a birthday every five days, and what about Christmas?
Heck, do Polygamists believe in that even? I mean from what little I do understand, they are sort of more like Mormons in their beliefs, so do they believe in Christ? Hey, it would be interesting to know.
I can understand back in the days when maybe there were a handful of people on the planet, the need to have more children also meant needing more wives, but surely society isn’t still at that stage, no matter the relgion? Or are we? I suppose Catholics still believe in that, after all the Church opposes Condoms as well as birth control, so is this simply a way to insure survival of their particular race or beliefs? I mean it would seem to be one sure fire way to insure that they continue and that their beliefs don’t disappear. So is that the reason for polygamy?
Then too I have to wonder about the children that are indeed born to these people. How can any one man devote any time to these kids and show them affection never mind guidence? Isn’t that sort of asking for trouble down the road or are they that will controlled by this type of lifestyle? I mean I know in old times and perhaps even still, farmers had lots of kids in order to help with the fields, but these people do other things than just farming. So is it to get more people out there doing various jobs so the church reaps more bucks?
I do wonder though, if the concept of multiple partners is natural? I mean if you look at it by the numbers, arent most divorces as a result of one or both parties straying? And then too, in our own lifestyle, isn’t the concept of looking for threesomes or more just another way of wanting multiple partners for sex? So maybe this whole polygamy thing is about that? The insatiable sex drive of the male species?
Should be interesting to see how this all plays out.
