Like I thought, the Republicans are now pointing the finger at Gays who have led to this debacle with Foley from Florida. ( see article )
Conservative blogs and Web sites pointed out that gay staff members played principal roles in investigating the Foley case, suggesting that the party was betrayed by gay men trying to hide misconduct by one of their own. Some gay activists even began circulating a document known as “The List,” a roster of gay Congressional staff members and their Republican bosses. ( full story )
Amazing isn’t it? I mean you would think that people in charge of a nation like the United States would see beyong their prejudices and bias that this isn’t about Being Gay. I mean it is okay for Republicans to support other Republicans, Democrats other Democrats, but hey, not for Gays. Like that is showing the old white sheet a bit isn’t it?
And to assume that a Gay individual would cover up something illegal simply because, well the other is Gay is no different than any other blanket condemnation of a group. Do all Republicans lie, cheat, & chase little boys because Mark Foley did? Somehow I don’t think so, so why do these Conservatives all assume Gays do?
For me, this is exactly why Being Gay cannot be secret. It merely fosters the illogical assumption that there is something to hide when in reality there isn’t. Being Gay is not a disease, not an evil, but is who we are. No different than if our skin color was darker than most or lighter than most. The rationale being spouted by the Conservative movement, and the so called Religious Right is not just homophobic, but racist and 100% against any words from God that I am familiar with. This is Racism, pure and simple and while Foley acted improperly, is his sin any worse just because he is Gay?
Would it be just as abhorrent if he was hetrosexual and chasing female paiges? Would all straight men be under scrutiny and the spy glasses if he had been straight, chasing young girls or would it have passed off as it should be, one man with a horrible sense of right and wrong, one man who stepped over the line. Do you condemn an entire group simply because today it is in fashion to cast blame on Homosexuals?
