With the defeat of the Bush Republicans in the mid term elections, it would appear that the so called conservative movement is casting its racist eyes northward, towards Canada. Seems they figure they can work their hatred up here while the fires cool down in the States.
Bruce Clemenger, president of the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada, says 43 Christian and Muslim leaders have signed a common declaration calling for some “sober second thought” on the issue of same-sex marriage. (see Story)
No wonder that suddenly, ever since Harper appointed the yank from one of Bush’s Think Tanks and Evangelical Groups, these so called religious groups are springing up all over, demanding Canada go back to the stone age. Course I suppose they have the right to keep on yelling, but you know, somehow I kind of hope Harper caves in to them. It should spell his downfall and bring about the end to his Neo Nazi type of Government.
The religious right forgets, Harper wasn’t elected to a majority, and he was only given a small mandate due to disatisfaction, not because of support for his platform. Canadians consistently when exiting the polls said they wanted a change, and were willing to give Harper a chance, not sure where he stood.
In less than a year, we are facing a possible election again in the winter, simply because Canadians can’t see how his policies are of any benefit. His clean air act is a joke, and his national daycare program is as bad. There is not policy and he has broken so many of his election promises, that it would be a shock if he kept one, but let him keep this one. Least then the people can toss him out and relegate him to the dustbin of history, where his kind belong.
Racism has no place here.
The courts have spoken and so has parliament. Let us keep in mind that the passage of the same sex marraige bill was by a majority of parliament at a time when the government of the day, did not have a majority. Already opposition parties have said they will not support such a motion or debate again, including 14 of Harper’s own party. So enough already.
There is no doubt, the religious right are very sore losers. Unfortunately for them, Canadians don’t like sore losers. How they fair in the states isn’t our concern or problem. It amazes me how so many can ignore the rule of law, let alone the spirit of the very consititution that they hold dear to their heart. I mean if memory is right, wasn’t the whole reason many migrated to the states was to avoid the religious persecution of Europe? So how in blazes does creating a religious crusade now in any way embody that spirit?
