Well once again it is that time of year. Checking my Bel Ami Calendar, Christmas is fast approaching this year and yet I don’t know, just doesn’t seem like much to celebrate, despite all the television ads. Man you should see the circulars that come with the paper as well. It is like everyone has a sale on or is pushing some newly redefined gimmick. I mean ‘new and improved’ can only work so often, but whatever happened to what Christmas was supposed to mean?
We had a nice snowfall here a few days ago, well week ago actually. Not something we normally get or at least not in the amount. Still it made me think about Christmas, about the old movies like Holiday Inn, or White Christmas, Bishop’s Wife, Miracle on 34th Street and as the time winds down on this year, I wonder why feel good shows are no longer around. I wonder too at the amount of violence around the globe. The horrible poisoning of that Russian in the UK and the finding of more bodies in Bahgdad. The increased mantra from the Democrats that US Troops should be yanked or in their terms, redeployed. How about our own Stephen Harper who is right now plotting to overturn Same Sex Marriage in Canada (see story) because he has some opinion that his religious beliefs should be the prevailing one in our country.
Makes no sense when this is supposed to be about the birth of a savior. My question is though, what did he save us from? Have we conveniently forgotten his messages? The Conservative Jewish wing has passed 2 out 3 amendments giving Gay Jews a foot in. Gays can now serve in the Conservative wing as Rabbis and more than that, conservative Synagogues can perform marriage ceremonies. (see story) Funny isn’t it, despite all that, they still hold that being Gay is a no no.
With other countries granting equal rights to Gays, the US continues to oppose such measures. It still rankles many and yet, even now during Christmas you have to wonder, where did the message go? Where did it disappear to? Did his sacrifice have a time limit on it? Death squads roam Iraq (see story) and Gays are prime targets. It just seems like this world is nearing a tipping point, where violence is the norm. Fathers kill their families, and yet top news is about some hollywood bimbo splitting up with her man.
I simply don’t get it anymore.
