I know, sometimes it seems like that is all that is discussed but you know, equality is never something to be ignored or just passed off with a shrug. The whole same sex marriage debate is one that goes to the very essence of freedom, and frankly, democracy itself. With the way things are going, it seems to be even more important to get this right than to just ignore it.
Seperate is NOT Equal.
The primary reason for this is simple, it is too easy to manipulate and alter. Big deal some might say, but look at how for years this mantra was used with African Americans and schools. Despite all the claims of it being equal, history has shown it was far from that, and worse, was manipulated to the point that kids did suffer in learning. Now with the latest ruling in Michigan, it again shows that calling same sex marriage anything else, is not equal.
(Lansing, Michigan) The Michigan Court of Appeals ruled Friday that the state’s constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage prevents public institutions from providing benefits to same-sex partners of employees. (story)
While the ruling based its judgment on the constitutional ban, it shows clearly how easily the rights of marriage can be tampered with and even altered to where they mean absolutely nothing.
Same Sex Marriage has to be called Marriage, to avoid this entire debacle that now faces those in Michigan.
