Maybe I just have an outdated sense of what religion is about. I mean today’s version of religion seems one of exclusion, of racism, and of hatred rather than the ancient principle of loving everyone as one would like to be loved themselves. Just look at how lately the Pope is constantly attempting to force governments to deny equality to a minority, simply because it doesn’t fit his narrow view. Or how about the US Bishops who are willing to get Gay’s to come to church, add to the collection plate, but don’t let anyone know they are Gay.
Even the Baptists are torn at who should and who should be allowed to hear God’s words according to their doctrine. I mean to threaten those Churches that are willing to bridge the gaps between heterousexual members and the gay community is somehow, UnGodly to the North Carlonia Baptists. And they do have over 1.2 million members. Not a small group.
The statement put to the congregation accused the Baptist State Convention of choosing “to narrow its membership to exclude churches and institutions that do not adhere to its exclusive and discriminatory view of who is welcome in its fellowship.” (story)
It is nice to note that some churches understand about what religion is, too bad the majority these days don’t. I never understood this frenzy opposing who I am and who others like me are, and why it brings out such hatred. While many may not believe in creation, for those who do, it begs the question that if being Gay is natural, how then can they oppose accepting Gays?
I suppose though, it does sort of fit. I mean look at how long it took for the churches to oppose slavery and the rights of those whose skin is a different color? Yet, they were part of the driving force that ended segregation, and somehow I just don’t see that happening this time around. For some reason, homosexuality seems to make people lose sight, that we are all God’s children.
