During WWII there were tons of posters, about how Uncle Sam (ie the Country) wants able bodied people to serve in the Military. Now in Utah, it is the belief of two local politicians that Gays are desperately attempting to recruit Non Gay men and woman to become Gay, and to erode the morals of that upright community of God Fearing Christians in Utah. You know, the state where so many have dozens of wives, where children as young as 12 or 14 are forced to marry men who are 50?
During debate on last year’s bid to impose limitations on clubs Buttars on the Senate floor said Gay-Straight Alliances are “a recruiting tool for gays and are “tearing down the moral pillars of society.” (story)
Somehow I just don’t see a bunch of gays and lesbians tearing down any pillars or making a mockery of real morals, you know the ones like Not Killing, Not Committing Adultery, and all those other high sounding values that somehow, some seem to think we don’t adhere to. Okay some of us are permissive, like any other group you care to name. I mean come on, a divorce rate of 60% certainly does not ooze fidelity or commitment to a spouse does it?
How about the number of teenage girls that abandon their babies because Mommy and Daddy wouldn’t understand them being pregnant, let alone care for the unwanted infant? Or maybe the high morals of those who insist that if you hit people and abuse them simply because they are gay, it isn’t hate motivated? (see comment ‘Shoulder The Blame’)
Each time a state or local government passes legislation like they have in Utah, it sends a dangerous signal throughout the region. It tells people that it is okay to Hate, to attack, and to hurt those who are different. (see comment ‘Making Victims’) It increases racial tensions, and violence because somehow, that 98 pound gay boy is going to force that 140 pound school football hero to become a homosexual.
How can grown adults be so damn stupid?
To begin with, being Gay is not a choice but an act of Nature. Despite the rhetoric to the contrary, medical science has shown that. Yet people like these Utah Politicians are of the opinion that somehow, it is a choice. Worse they believe their own children are so gullible, that they can be turned into Homosexuals by discussing differences in a school club atmosphere. Certainly is a vote of confidence in their parenting skills, isn’t it?
GSA’s are a bridge to understanding.
I wonder too, why it is okay for groups that promote one brand of religion over another, are acceptable, and yet groups that promote harmony, peace, brotherhood, are being driven out of schools? Is it to preserve that the collection plate is kept full or is it a fear that kids will come to realize that the religion they are being taught isn’t as these politicians represent it to be?
Inter Faith meetings abound across the nation, and why? To bridge gaps between the various religions of the world, to promote understanding. Funny, they aren’t being banned from school grounds, and one’s religious beliefs are not predetermined by nature. In fact, religion is a choice made by people. Some might be borne Catholic, but at any time in their life, they are free to choose other forms of religion such as Islam or Judaism or anything else.
The only choice open to GLBT people is to Hide who they are. They can’t stop being Gay, while anyone can stop being Catholic or Baptist or whatever at any time. There is no natural predisposition to be Catholic or Muslim, but there is in being Gay. Just as I illustrated in my novel, ‘The Secret’, Gays are forced to hide, to keep a secret of who they really are.
Recruitment of non believers is a fundamental goal of many Christian groups, yet that is okay. Yet they are allowed to be on school property, and to be free to make their case. Yet here is Utah, denying the right of Gays and Lesbians to meet and show others, that there is nothing to fear from them. GSA’s don’t recruit people to be gay, Christian groups do, but it is the GSA’s that get banned.
This type of legislation, this type of homophobia, of racism, is what Makes Us Victims, from the moment we are born, to the moment we die. Until Government stops being manipulated and controlled by Bigots and Racists, bullying will increase in our schools, violence will continue, and yes, terrorism will never be eradicated. This is what we teach, hate, and hate manifests itself into violence, specially when HOPE is taken away, such as in the Middle East today. This is the lesson we show, we promote, and why?
Because a select few believe they are on a mission from GOD. Someone tell me, where did they see the burning bush that didn’t burn? Moses saw it, when did they?
