Talked a bit lately about the Prodi Government in Italy, where change was coming, but the Pope decided to mix into the affairs of the state, clearly a violation of the agreement between Italy and the Vatican, but hey, he is the Pope and obviously the word of HIS church isn’t worth the paper the accord was written on.
In order to stay in power, (see Story) the Italian Prime Minister was forced to shelf the same sex rights package that the Italian Senate urged him to pass, and that had barely passed in Cabinet. Now he has put it aside, because once more the Vatican has won through its meddling in State Politics. Exactly as it is meddling in the politics across the world.
I think that in my novel Rage, you can get a pretty good dramatization of what Religion has become today. Frankly it isn’t about spreading GOD’s word, but about keeping their riches in tact. It is through their tactics, that honest politicians are forced to make deals, just to stay in power in order to bring about changes. I don’t blame Prodi for going back on his promise but I do blame the Religious Zealots who feel it is their obligation to force their beliefs and interpretations on everyone else.
It is rather hypocritical and rather ironic too. I mean think about this. GOD gives man free will, to choose HIM or not, to do as he pleases and yet here is HIS REPRESENTATIVES forcing their will on those who have chosen otherwise.
Now tell me that isn’t ironic a little?
