It is interesting to note the difference in the two countries. In the USA you have outspoken Coultier making racist remarks about John Edwards campaign, sort of calling him a ‘faggot’ (see Story) and up in Quebec you have some idiot radio host doing the same about the PQ Leader, who is openly Gay (see Story).
Coultier’s remarks were applauded and so far no real denial from those in real power have commented on it, or taken offence at it. Sure Romeny called it offensive, McCain did too and Senator Kennedy did and yet John Edwards is instead using it to raise money for his failing Presidential campaign. Interesting to note that Senator Clinton or Obama, or Guilliano have commented on it. More interesting is that neither has the Republican Party per se, though Howard Dean did for the Democrats.
But what about Bush?
On the other hand in Canada, in Quebec that is in an actual election right now, the Premier of the Province did respond, and very forcefully. So too did the opposition party leader, and there is the difference. (see story)
Charest says it’s unacceptable to comment on the private life of Parti Quebecois Leader Andre Boisclair, who is gay. (story)
Keep in mind that Quebec is very Roman Catholic and yet there is outrage over the comments. So much that it could possibly sway some to be more sympathetic to the PQ leader. Yet in the United States people applauded similar comments. The leaders of the country don’t stand up and comment, and then the USA wonders why the rest of the world gets put off by them?
This is racism, and she tries to explain it away as a joke, just as John Kerry did with his stupid remarks about soldiers and Iraq.
Yet the more you look into it, the more you see the homophobia that exists and how it is all becoming acceptable to the electorate. To begin with, why is she even being allowed to continue in her positions? Seems that maybe it is indeed far more deeply rooted. I mean think about it, you just have Hardaway with his bullshit remarks, and now Coultier and to think, the election is what, 18 or so months away?
I think in my novel The Secret, and in the novel Rage, the state of homophobia is clearly shown, in fictional form. What is interesting is that there is a clear difference on how it is handled in our two countries. The Secret shows that such racism is really not tolerated, even behind closed doors. Yet in Rage, it shows how much influence the religious zealots do have, and to what lengths they go to in order to achieve their goals.
Really does make you wonder.

[...] And yet in the United States, someone like Ann Coulter gets applause for her homophobic statements at a Conservative rally. Certainly tends to show the differences in the two countries, where one clearly recognizes that hate, no matter who it is directed at, is wrong, while another nation embraces that hatred if it directed against a group the majority aren’t comfortable with.
