A four letter word, that strikes terror into people’s hearts, and makes grown men tremble, and worse, it makes ordinary decent humans into vicious animals, snarling and biting at something they have no understanding of. That is HATE.
If I stand on a street corner, and yell that being a homosexual it a sin against GOD, as Reverend Phelps and his flock do frequently at Funerals of service people, that is my opinion, my right to speak what I believe, just as it is Phelps right. That is FREE SPEECH.
If I am a minister in a church or a rabbi in a synagogue, and I stand on the Pulpit and preach the gospel according to the beliefs of my religion, according to the interpretation of those scriptures, that is my right as well. Even if I mis-interpret or leave out salient facts, or ignore them all together, if that is the Churches doctrine, so be it, that is what I believe, even if it means I oppose Homosexuality for being against my perception of GOD. That is RELIGIOUS FREEDOM.
If I seek another out who is different than me, and for no other reason I beat them and hurt them and even kill them, it is Murder, but it is more than that. They aren’t someone I know, nor are they someone I am robbing. I am attacking them because of their differences to me, and it makes no different who they are. They can be Ken or Karen, tall or short, thin or fat, bald or hair to their shoulders, blond or brunette, makes no difference to me, as long as they are different than me. That makes it a HATE CRIME.
According to FBI statistics, one out of six hate crimes are based on a person’s sexual orientation. That is not a small number, and that is why Sexual Orientation needs to be included under Federal Hate Crime Laws. That is the Mathew Shepard Bill.
When someone is elected to high office such as President or Prime Minister, they are in charge over all the people. They are not just the President or Prime Minister of those who voted for them. After all it is a secret ballot, so they must administer and govern over ALL, not any Special Interest Group. Their personal beliefs, views, are second to the need to do what is best for ALL, not what they are taught in bible class. Just as Jean Chretien and Paul Martin did in Canada. After all, they were elected by many who do not share the same religious affiliation, not to mention that those who didn’t vote them might not share their same religious outlook. It is there sworn obligation to protect and serve ALL of the people, to do otherwise is not just wrong, but in violation of that very oath of office. That is called DERELICTION OF DUTY.
Even in business, the minority shareholder has rights. The majority cannot just trample on the minority simply because they have the most shares. In life, it is supposed to be the same. In fact, it is the obligation of the majority to insure that what laws they receive, are applicable to all, not just to those who claim to be the majority. Black, Green, or Queer, the laws of the land apply to them all, and no President or Government Official can change that, even though many today do. That is called INJUSTICE & RACISM.
Aides to President Bush are claiming that if the Mathew Shepard Bill reaches the desk of the President, they will advise he VETO that bill, claiming that there is no need for such a Federal Law that includes sexual orientation. Tell that to Mathew Shepard, Karl Rove. Oh wait, you can’t, he died after being beaten and tied up to a fence in the country, left to die.
(Washington) The House of Representatives passed the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Act Thursday, just hours after the White House said aides would recommend President Bush veto the measure. (see Story)
How many more must die before justice is served?
Write, Fax, Email, Phone the White House your objection to any VETO of the Mathew Shepard Bill.

[...] It is unconceivable to me how such sane people can deny protection for people from HATE, irrespective of their belief on the morality of same sex people. It isn’t about supporting homosexuality, it isn’t about approving homosexuality, it is about standing up and OPPOSING HATE. (see comment ‘HATE‘) [...]
