The repeal of DADT and the Mathew Shepard Bill continue to languish in the US Senate, awaiting a decision. One that most likely will result in a Presidential Veto, again, though one has to wonder, so what? I mean yes, their may not be the votes to over ride, but you know, why not take a page out of the Religious Right and Neo Nazi movement and just keep on submitting the bills to Herr Bush?
Make it political, make every Veto ring out across the land by showing the faces of battered gay men, of the images of Mathew Shepard left to die alone on a fence, show the stark reality of the Bigotry of George W Bush and EVERY SINGLE SENATOR who DOES NOT VOTE TO OVER RIDE. Talk about a hot campaign, and one that might just wake up Joe & Jane Average.
If Immigration, and the perceived loss of Jobs can turn the Senate, surely human suffering can as well, or are American Voters only interested in their pocket book?
(Davis, California) Nearly four in 10 gay men and about one in eight lesbians and bisexuals in the United States have been the target of violence or a property crime because of their sexual orientation, according to a new study. (source)
40% of Gay Men suffer from abuse, at the hands of Bigots. Tell me that isn’t worthy of being protected under Hate Crime Law. If it isn’t, and if the Democrats are too busy pushing for Amnesty Legislation, then perhaps a third party needs to step up here. As of now, the show of support is merely token, and rather weak at that.
If the Democrats truly wish to capture both houses and the White House, then maybe now is the time to make them step up. After all, they want the money to spend on their races, so what does one get for their donation these days to the likes of Hilary Clinton, Governor Richardson, John Edwards?
Other than Lip Service
Seems to me that if money is the guiding light behind American Voter Support, then how about this. The more attacks occur, the added cost there is to health care, to disability insurances, and policing costs. While it won’t keep the wage levels down, it does impact every single person who pays taxes. It blows me away that this is really a non issue with non-gays. They all seem to believe it isn’t all that serious, but they sure do get upset if Don Imus or some other shock jock mimics a visible minority.
