I used to believe that basically, all people are ‘good‘. That they may indeed have different views, but that basically they aren’t bad, they aren’t dedicated to hate, to racism, to violence even, but that they simply aren’t aware of how things are. People who ‘hate‘ others because of the color of their skin, or their religious beliefs, or their sexual orientation, are simply unaware that there are differences that don’t make those they hate bad.
Maybe their experiences have soured them, but that doesn’t represent the entire collection of those people. There are some Jews I don’t like, who are greedy, think of nothing but money, but there are just as many Non Jews who I have come across that are no different. So do I hate all Jews and Non Jews because of those few?
NO.
So why then does so many seeking office today, try to capitalize on those ‘differences‘? Such as why is it that so many Republicans oppose Homosexuals? I know the ‘excuse‘ is that it goes against their religious beliefs, but the key is it is ‘their beliefs‘ and surely there has to be room for disagreement? Nothing is written in stone, other than the Ten Commandments, and last time I checked, there was nothing there about ‘hating or opposing homosexuality‘, so why the big push against Gays?
All eight Democratic candidates support comprehensive sex education, whereas seven of eight Republicans have opposed it. (source)
What I really don’t understand is the mind set that says you support the well being of Children, of Society and yet are adamant about denying the risks associated with sex, about educating children so they can make proper educated decisions. I, for example, agree that sex is not something to be entered into lightly, that there needs to be some sort of commitment. Yet at the same time I understand how some allow their emotions to become clouded by the physical desires. So why do we not teach them the ramifications of giving in to such impulses? Why do we oppose so strongly those proven education methods, and try to force that narrow view on everyone?
Did GOD not give man Free Will for a reason? Yet many in the Republican Field seem to believe that basic principle of Christianity DOES NOT APPLY TO OTHERS, only to Them.
People are dying, isn’t it supposed to be ‘Christian‘ to care about that? Aren’t all people, GOD’S CHILDREN?
