Well, at least it seems that is the excuse they are going to go with. The Vatican released an apology written by the Pope, in the matter of Bishop Williamson. He is the one the Pope wanted to have return to the Church, but didn’t seem to know that the guy was an antisemite. He thinks that only about 300,000 Jews were killed by the Nazis in WWII, and none of them gassed.
The Papal apology, explains that they didn’t do a good job on researching the Bishop, on the Internet. I guess Pope Benedict & his staff haven’t heard of Google yet, or else, didn’t click on the ‘ advanced search ‘ option tag.
Thing is, this is just PR, and not really sincere. He got blasted, and does’t quite understand why either, according to his apology, but that is all this is. I mean think about it. He has managed, since becoming Pope, to strain relations with the entire Muslim Faith, now the Jewish Faith, and even all the other versions of Christianity.
An accident? Failure to speak clearly? Lack of experience in Googling?
If you make a good, you say ” I am sorry ” and move on. You don’t then try to turn it around and make it seem like those who got upset with your remarks, attacked you without cause. He wanted a man back in the fold, that attempts to deny the facts of history. An apology should at least try to appear like you mean it. This one really doesn’t do that, but then again he isn’t one for being compassionate, now is he?
