Guessing is Never Good, HIV Rates Higher
Supposed to be released tomorrow, the CDC is going to be revising its estimate of HIV infections, based on the results of a new blood test. If you get past the ‘ass covering‘ of the piece, it seems that the estimates on how many new cases of HIV per year is a bit off. Like about maybe 16,000
(CBS/AP) The number of Americans infected by the AIDS virus each year is much higher than the government has been estimating, U.S. health officials are expected to report Sunday, acknowledging that their numbers have understated the level of the epidemic.
The country had roughly 56,300 new HIV infections in 2006 – a dramatic increase from the 40,000 annual estimate used for the last dozen years. The new figure is due to a better blood test and new statistical methods, and not a worsening of the epidemic, officials said. (source – CBS News)
Now I am not a math major, nor am I a Rocket Scientist, but I really have to wonder at these people who give out this information. I can see, that the disease hasn’t worsened, just that they failed to accurately report its rate of growth. So for me, that is just as bad, because you know, if they are wrong by that number for just the last Ten Years, it means that there are about 116,000 people with HIV who weren’t accounted for.
IT means that health resources have been based on inaccurate numbers, making those resources woefully inadequate. IT can also mean that SOMEONE might be trying to HIDE THE TRUTH.
I believe the term used, is EPIDEMIC, which certainly garners a different response, than just a Gay Disease would. Then too, there is the whole equation of where the increases are being noted, which again, makes you wonder. IS THIS REAL or FUDGED?
Some experts celebrated that finding, saying it’s a tribute to prevention efforts, including nearly 200 syringe exchange programs now operating in 36 states despite a federal ban on funding for such projects.
But they also lamented the CDC’s finding that infections continue to increase in gay and bisexual men, who accounted for more than half of HIV infections in 2006. Also, more than a third of those with HIV are younger than 30. (source – more from CBS News)
IF they couldn’t tell how many new infections there were each year, how can they tell that the increase is among Gay / Bisexual Men, with more than a third being under 30? I simply don’t get how they all come up with these figures, and I wonder, just how much does POLITICS EFFECT THE NUMBERS RELEASED?
IS this new statistical measurements, new blood tests, really be the reason for the increased numbers, or an excuse on how to account for the larger number? After all, it does show that Abstinence Only IS NOT WORKING. A major political program by the Bush Administration, that has cost Taxpayers Billions of Dollars. Yet the annual CDC Budget is $700 Million for AIDS/HIV prevention.
Makes you wonder, is this because of a New Blood Test, or is it simply Cover as the Truth is gradually being discovered?
