In my home province of Alberta, the Conservatives pushed through their new Human Rights Legislation, that is anything but a protection for Minorities. The new bill prevents the root of racism, of prejudices, from being attacked, as it allows parents the right to remove their kids from class, when issues on religion, sexual orientation, sex, arise.

In short, It GUTS the entire purpose of any Human Rights Legislation, simply because some special interest group, believes it doesn’t have to listen to the other side. It sends a clear signal, that discussing issues that are not popular, that are not white washed or coated in sugar, will result in litigation, and who knows what else. It creates a CLIMATE OF FEAR, that will continue to promote hatred, racism, and discrimination, all because the Alberta Conservatives feel the need to pander to a special interest group, to garner votes.

Religion should be the saving Grace, and yet today it has become the staunch ally of fear, of hate, of violence. When people like the Pope lash out at governments, even toppling some, because they want to insure ALL CITIZENS get equal protection, religion is no longer about GOD.

That isn’t Conservatism, but RACISM. It isn’t about protecting the sanctity of GOD, but about promoting HATE.  What Alberta has done, is to deny the needs of children to learn about differences, and instead to allow them to be taught HATE, RACISM, & INTOLERANCE.

Once more, Pope Benedict is showing why he is simply a bad choice for leader of the Catholic Church. His comments on Condoms, before heading out on his African Trip clearly demonstrates how this man hasn’t a clue about life, about the real world.  For him to claim that use of Condoms increases the spread of AIDS / HIV is amazing, but then again, we should be used those type of comments from him. After all, he didn’t know about the anti semitic views of one of the Bishops he was pardoning, and didn’t really mean to say Islam was a violent religion that promoted violence.

It is almost as if he deliberately wants to raise people’s hackles, create controversy. Maybe he thinks it gets people thinking of the Church or something, but in reality, it turns them off of it. It makes them feel like GOD has abandoned them, when his supposed leader on earth makes such outlandish remarks.

Condoms won’t prevent AIDS / HIV from spreading,  but it will help slow it down. Denying people Condoms, or educating them about it, will only further the spread of the virus. Granted abstinence is a sure fire way of controlling its spread, but it is also unrealistic. Unless mankind is to become NON SEXUAL BEINGS, abstinence WILL NOT WORK.

Then too, the whole concept of being faithful is not a solution. Granted, it is the ideal method between committed couples, but we are HUMAN. We are tempted, and fall to that temptation, and then too, many are simply not couples. So while their body is on fire with raging hormones, they are supposed to ignore it, until they find the right person, marry, and then have sex?

That didn’t happen at any time in Human History, let alone be possible in today’s society. So the Pope needs to adapt to reality, not push the impossible. Nor do I buy his argument that GOD wishes this type of approach either. After all, ancient man, even in the time of Christ, multiple wives were the norm, not the exception. Kind of seems to me, that back then, they understood that man is a sexual being, and that you can’t just limit their sexual urges to one partner.

Arizona became the 16th state to reject federal funds for ‘Abstinence Only‘ education programs. Since its inception, the program has cost US Taxpayer’s nearly a half billion dollars, and so far studies have shown that the program is worthless. That is has no real impact on kids, and that it can actually do harm.

Like that took how many years for them to realize?

The study found that while abstinence-only efforts appear to have little positive impact, more comprehensive sex education programs were having “positive outcomes” including teenagers “delaying the initiation of sex, reducing the frequency of sex, reducing the number of sexual partners and increasing condom or contraceptive use.” (source)

Like it isn’t Rocket Science to know that telling kids not to have sex before they are married is not going to work. Teenagers love to party, to have fun and the last thing on their mind is about ‘saving themselves‘ for MR or MISS Right. It has been well proven in other countries, that only comprehensive education helps reduce sexual activity among teenagers.

It also helps reduce pregnancies and disease, but does George W. Bush and the Republicans understand that? Course not, because that would mean they actually gave a damn about people. Truth is, these programs are nothing but political payoff to a group of narrow minded bigots, that somehow took over the Republican Party.

Simple truth is, these abstinence programs were a payoff. No different than any other BRIBE.
