Partisan Politics
As I mentioned at Gay Talk, it seems that the US Senate doesn’t share the same sense of urgency about the US Economy, as the House or the White House does. Or the people for that matter, as it continues to ‘play politics‘ instead of passing the Stimulus Package. Instead it wants its own version, as it will give them more political brownie points come November, but this really doesn’t seem like the time to be playing ‘politics as usual‘, or does it?
It is interesting, because in Canada we have had a minority government for the last four years or so. Things are getting done, tax bills are passed, including tax cuts. Rebate programs for more energy efficient cars has passed, and even contentious bills relating to security warrants have passed.
The Democrats control both houses, but all they have managed to pass is their OWN PAY RAISE. So how come they can’t come together and get a REAL STIMULUS PACKAGE PASSED? The issue isn’t about throwing some cash at people, but about helping those who can’t afford the high cost of heating oil. Exxon did post a record profit, as did the other oil companies, so maybe Congress could actually look into that? Or would that cut off some campaign funds?
Maybe Congress should look at ways to help those who have lost their jobs, and are rapidly running out of unemployment benefits, instead of worrying about more Free Trade Accords that ship those jobs overseas? I mean wouldn’t that make a lot more sense, than say trying to score political brownie points?
