The Death Tally in Iraq
It is being reported that six gay men, have been shot by fellow tribesmen in Iraq. In addition, a popular coffee shop, frequented by Gays in Sadr City is reported to have been set on fire. Naturally it doesn’t make the headline news, after all, it is only fags getting what they deserve, right?
I don’t know anymore, about what is right, what is wrong, because the values that so many have touted, seem so wrong, so out of place, with those I learned as a kid. I was taught not to cheat, lie, steal, and yet here we are in the year 2009, where cheating is common, stealing is definately a big job requirement, and well lying, is certainly how you can get elected, and stay elected. Worse, you even get idolized for it.
How is that good old fashioned values?
Six men are dead, Afghanistan is moving to restrict the rights of Women, and yet it is the stock market that matters. How much a CEO makes, or what bonuses are given, to keep people working, who are responsible for destroying the very company paying them.
Doesn’t it sound a bit crazy to you? Don’t you think that it is time to stop pointing the fingers at everyone, but one’s own self?
Maybe if we stopped cheating, stopped lying, and stopped stealing, it might just, trickle on upwards? I mean come on, when we work for a company, deliver anything less than our best, aren’t we not only cheating them, but also stealing from them? And okay, so they are asshole employers, or huge conglomerates, when did two wrongs make a right?
Six people are dead in Iraq, which really isn’t a citadel of freedom now is it? However, what about all those Gay men & women who are fighting for Iraq’s independence, but aren’t allowed to be who they are, because the US Military would then not only discharge them, but keep their earned benefits?
I wonder, do we simply look for someone doing worse than us, so we can ignore our own inabilities to honor our values, our ethics?
