Mitt Romney has suspended his campaign, and his bid for nominee of the Republican Party for President.

WOOHOO!

There is no doubt he was running a distant second to John McCain, and odds of him catching up were slim, specially if Mike Huckabee stayed on fighting. So his departure is rather an astute and political savvy move, if he still harbors hopes of one day being the Republican Nominee.

By dropping out now, he doesn’t force the issue of who is the conservative, he avoids the bad blood, even though there is plenty of it. It is a smart move, if McCain wins the nomination but loses the General Election. And most of the ‘pundits‘ seem to feel that whoever wins the Democratic Nomination is going to be the next President, so this move by Romney is smart.

For now, EVIL has been kicked back, and that is good.

A decade or so ago, if you listened to a young Mormon politician named Mitt Romney you would never assume that he was a frothing anti abortionist, nor that he was a staunch neo conservative. And yet today that is exactly what Mitt Romney IS, and keeps on trying to PROVE THAT HE IS, even though some are seeing through his hypocrisy. (see Gay Talk)

All in the name of getting elected.

From Hilary Clinton to Ron Paul, they all talk about their CORE BELIEFS and how they have worked for so long in support of those basic beliefs. Even Mitt Romney tries that gambit, and yet if you look at the past of them all, you find how different their stands were just a short time back.

Hilary Rodham Clinton on Health Care, where her and hubby came up with today’s HMO System. Yet back then she opposed any form of National Health, now she wants to mandate that it become LAW that everyone MUST HAVE HEALTH CARE INSURANCE. Doesn’t say how you are supposed to pay for it, but that sure is a switch from when she was First Lady.

Then over on the other side, you have Mitt Romney. This is the guy who promised Gay’s he would be their voice in Washington, to secure them EQUAL RIGHTS, and now today he goes to court to DENY GAYS THOSE VERY RIGHTS. He stands PROUDLY IN DEFENSE OF HIS ANTI GAY STAND.

You would think that these two, at least, would not be in the running, and yet here we are, about to start the tortured process of Primary Voting, and they are the front runners for their Political Parties. Makes you wonder, is it really what people want, or is it the money they are spending to fool everyone?

Well the big debate is over, and what a yawner, or so some say. There were sparks, but did anyone give any answers? Mitt Romney would like DADT to be left up to the Military, the others like John McCain believe DADT is okay, because after all, unit cohesiveness is what counts. Fact that is the same argument the white supremacists used in trying to block integration of African Americans into the Armed Forces doesn’t matter. Can’t let them queers in, now can we?

CNN host Anderson Cooper put the question to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, reminding him that when he ran for the Senate against Ted Kennedy he said that he “longed for the day” when gays could serve openly in the military.

The question was asked by a Brig General, who it turns out is on the Clinton Campaign somehow. Now, here we go, an important question is made inconsequential because of Clinton dirty tricks. It is unreal. It was perhaps one of the best questions, well pressed, yet now is tarnished because the man works for Senator Clinton.

Are politicians really this stupid? Maybe the real litmus test shouldn’t be how well they lie, how much they take in graft, but at how much common sense they have, before letting them loose on the public?

Just a thought.

If you follow politics at all, you’ll know that the Religious Right, all those lovely Evangelists that oppose anything that protects Gays, or grants them any semblance of Equality, are in a flux, given the candidates running for the Republican Presidential Nomination. And frankly that brings a smile to my face. In fact some are suggesting that if Rudy Guiliani wins the nomination, they will form a third party. (‘GOD’s Own Party… maybe‘ at Gay Talk)

The question it seems, is are they willing to insure a Democratic Party Victory in 2008, in order to hold to their ideals, their so called principals? It is a quandary for them, as the litmus test of the Primaries gets closer. Will they simply stay home? Will they push for another George Bush under a third party banner? They do have the money, so that shouldn’t be a problem, or do they?

With the recent endorsements by Pat Robertson to Guiliani, Sam Brownback to John McCain, and Paul Weyrich (co-founder Moral Majority) to Mitt Romney, it seems that these folks are truly splintered. And that means their power to influence an election is weaker.

One Can Hope.

The downside to them sticking to their ‘so called‘ principals is that it could insure a Democrat Victory, and if that is Hilary Rodham Clinton, just how good is that? Given her support of Amnesty and her waffling, will her election merely be a catalyst for making the Religious Right even more of a factor in 2012?
