Quakers Support Equality
The Quakers got a bad rap, for being pacifists. During times of war, many labelled them as cowards, because they did not believe in fighting. A tough belief to follow, when your country is at war, such as it was during the two world wars, korea, and such. Even tougher now, I suppose after 911 and yet there is something about a people, who stick to their beliefs.
One has to admire them, and then to see them now reach out to another minority, to do what their conscious tells me, is rather heart warming. I mean, not often you find a group, who go against the majority, out of principle. Especially when the majority are claiming ‘religious freedom’ as their battle cry.
What am I nattering about?
The Quakers have suspended signing opposite marriage licenses, as a sign of protest, until same sex marriages are also made legal.
“We’re simply trying to be consistent with the will of God as we perceive it,” said Paul Landskroener, clerk of the Twin Cities Friends Meeting, in an interview with MPR’s All Things Considered on Monday. ( source )
Kind of hopeful, when you see some group reaching out, holding true to their convictions, despite the foamings of the so called moral majority.
